We manage 840+ lane miles of roads and 45+ miles of hiking/biking trails, thousands of street lights and traffic signals, and over 12,000 street signs in Lenexa.

If you spot a broken street light, damaged sign or other issue, let us know.

Report a problem

Report traffic signal malfunctions or critical street sign issues like a missing stop sign by calling 913.477.7500, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, or 911 after hours.

Traffic flow

Our traffic engineers monitor traffic flow in intersections and other busy areas to ensure you can get where you need to go as quickly as possible.

Intersection cameras

We have several cameras strategically placed throughout the city that help us closely monitor traffic flows. If there is a problem, we may be able to fix it remotely.

Other innovations and technology

We strive to provide safe and efficient traffic operations to our residents, and we use many different forms of technology and innovation to accomplish that goal. This includes:

  • Truck routes – The City classifies certain streets as truck routes to assist in the efficient transport of goods and services, primarily to and from business parks. Section 3-8-B-1 of Lenexa City Code: Permanent Truck Routes
  • School zone flashers – We can turn our school flashers on or off remotely, which is a benefit for both students and drivers. For example, if school is let out early, we can turn on the flashers to alert vehicles to slow down for students in that area by remotely programming an alternate timing plan.
  • LED traffic signal lights – Most of our traffic signal lights have been replaced with light-emitting diode (LED) lights, which use significantly less energy than traditional incandescent bulbs. LED lights are also easier to see, especially in direct sunlight. We only have to replace the LED lights approximately every ten years, which saves time and money.
  • Illuminated and advance street name signs – We have installed illuminated and advance street name signs along major corridors which help unfamiliar drivers with way finding as they navigate throughout the city.
  • LED street lights – Recent technology advances have made LEDs street lighting more effective, efficient and long lasting such that replacing fixtures makes good economic sense. We will be replacing nearly all of the street lights with LEDs in 2017. This will not only save money on energy and maintenance costs, but also provide better lighting for the roadways in Lenexa.
  • Traffic signal operations – We are part of Operation Green Light, which is an organization that times and coordinates traffic signals throughout the metropolitan area without regard to jurisdictional boundaries. We have 35 signals coordinated through the system, and we use their traffic signal management system to communicate with the other 45 signals that are operated by Lenexa. With the traffic signal management system, operations can be remotely monitored, timed and controlled to provide more efficient traffic signal operation throughout the city.
