Dumpster Days and more bulky item disposal options

Dumpster Days and more bulky item disposal options
Posted on 06/22/2020

This spring’s stay-at-home orders left many of you with plenty of time to sort through bulky items you’d like to dispose of and fewer opportunities than usual to do so. Here are a few good opportunities for you to get rid of pesky items taking up space at home.

Dumpster Days rescheduled
The City of Lenexa has rescheduled our first 2020 Dumpster Days event for Saturday, July 18, and Sunday, July 19, 2020, with extended hours from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. This event was originally set for the first weekend in April and was postponed due to the stay-at-home order.

Stop by the Lenexa Municipal Services Service Center, 7700 Cottonwood, to drop off items like appliances, ballasts, electronics, furniture, lamps, light fixtures, tires and yard waste. Fees apply.

This event is open to Lenexa residents only, and you will be asked to show proof of residency.

See our Dumpster Days page for a list of accepted items, unaccepted items and fees.

Curbside bulky item pickup
All trash haulers in Lenexa are required to offer their customers one curbside collection of bulky items each calendar year. Some trash haulers suspended this service and other hands-on services like yard waste pickup during the start of the COVID-19 outbreak – check with your hauler to see if they are now offering bulky item pickup.

You’ll also want to check with your hauler or homeowners association to see how curbside pickup is handled in your neighborhood. Some companies set a specific day each year for all their customers to have large items picked up, while others allow you to schedule pickup for a time that works for you. Find a list of contact information for Lenexa waste haulers here
