City anticipates changes to pool season due to COVID-19
Posted on 04/22/2020
deck chairs at Indian Trails Aquatic CenterThe City of Lenexa hopes to be able to offer the community an outdoor pool season this year. But due to the evolving COVID-19 pandemic, aquatic operations will be impacted.

Parks & Recreation Department staff have analyzed the situation and considered options for addressing the uncertainty. Primary concerns include when and how county and state restrictions may be lifted, whether pool use will decline, extra safety and sanitation measures, staffing level adequacy, supply chain issues, and the extensive staff labor required to prepare pools while maintaining social distancing.

In response to this evolving public health emergency, the City will focus efforts on preparing one of its three outdoor pools for the summer season. If community pools are allowed to open, we plan to operate Indian Trails Aquatic Center located at Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park. It is the largest and most centrally located facility, with the most features. This would be in addition to operating the Lenexa Rec Center’s indoor pool.

A summer season limited by length or location could also affect aquatic recreation programs and services, such as swim lessonsLenexa Lazers Swim and Dive Team, Splash with Me and event rentals. The Parks & Recreation Department is working on ways to operate safely and responsibly given unknown factors.

Update as of April 29: The Lenexa Lazers Swim and Dive Team's 2020 season has been canceled.

Outdoor pool memberships purchased for use during the 2020 swim season will be valid through 2021 — two years for the price of one. Purchase a membership by April 30, 2020, and receive a 10% discount plus free guest passes (four per household; two per individual/senior). For questions about pool memberships, call 913.477.7100.

Parks & Recreation is also putting the public engagement phase of its aquatics study on hold for now. This study is meant to help city leadership make informed decisions about future aquatics investments in Lenexa.
