Posted on 08/12/2020

The Lenexa Governing Body is considering new homeless shelter regulations developed after several months of in-depth study and community input.

City staff presented draft regulations for the homeless shelter use to the Lenexa City Council at a Committee of the Whole meeting  on Tuesday, Aug. 25, at 7 p.m. in the Community Forum at Lenexa City Hall.

Regulations were originally planned to be presented during a joint work session of the Planning Commission and City Council on March 24, 2020, but the meeting was canceled due to the stay-at-home order and other public health concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the August 25th Committee of the Whole meeting, staff presented the proposed regulations and gathered input from the Governing Body and public. No decisions or formal action were made at this meeting.

Specific amendments to the Unified Development Code will be presented to the Planning Commission and City Council later in the fall.

Survey responses

An online survey was conducted in early 2020 to help collect input on how shelters should be regulated in Lenexa. Responses to the survey are provided below.
