Parks & Recreation Customer Service staff are the primary point of contact for customers who visit the Lenexa Community Center, Lenexa Rec Center, Thompson Barn and Legler Barn. In this role, they: 
  • Inform patrons of rules and policies.
  • Process activity registrations and indoor/outdoor facility rental agreements.
  • Enter information in registration/reservation database.
  • Process permits and payments.
  • Resolve customer concerns.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.

Customer Service Representative

Help citizens and guests find the best opportunity to stay healthy and connected in the community while working with experienced and welcoming team members. Assist customers in registering for activities, camps, classes and drop-in programs. Become familiar with the Lenexa Rec Center, Community Center, Senior Center, Thompson Barn, City Hall and outdoor park shelters, fields, courts and their many amenities. Inform renters of the best location to host their special occasion and assist with processing their reservation.

Representatives maintain front desk operations at the Lenexa Rec Center and Lenexa Community Center and assist at entry gates and the information booth at festivals and events.

Must be able to work Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. with occasional weekend support during festivals. 

Individuals with a high school diploma or GED and two years customer service experience are eligible for the customer service position. 

Event Concierge

Do you have a knack for providing exceptional hospitality and accommodating those preparing for their big day or an important meeting? Our event concierges get to assist clients with room setup, technology and amenity needs, tours of the facility, and general facility cleaning and supervision. They have thorough knowledge of the facility and problem-solving skills that help them work independently to make events run smoothly. 

Individuals age 21+ with a high school diploma or GED are eligible for the Event Concierge position.  

Legler Barn Museum Concierge

This position is ideal for an individual who has a passion for history and education and the ability to customize guided tours to all ages and group sizes. The barn is open to visitors from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesdays and Saturdays. However, on occasion large group tours are scheduled outside of those days.  The concierge informs guests of local and regional history and follows the educational guidelines set by the Lenexa Historical Society. 

Individuals with a high school diploma or GED are eligible for the Legler Barn Concierge position.  


Frequently asked questions

Is there a dress code?

Each team member is required to wear the City of Lenexa branded shirt provided. Dress code details are explained in orientation.  

How are schedules created?

Customer Service schedules are typically Monday–Friday between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. with occasional evenings and weekends to work at festivals and events. Hours range from 10 to 27 hours per week depending on the position.

Concierge schedules are determined by private rentals and support needed for City events. Shifts range Sunday–Thursday 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday 7 a.m. to midnight.

When would I get paid?

Team members are paid every two weeks. All employees receive their paycheck through automatic direct deposit.

Is there staff orientation and training?

New team members receive a handbook during the initial orientation and training with their supervisor. Concierge staff will shadow and train with current staff for a few shifts before working independently. Customer Service Reps will work alongside their peers for a few weeks before operating the front desk independently.

What type of events do concierge staff work?

Most events we host are weddings and receptions at Thompson Barn. We also have birthday, graduation and company parties, as well as church and business meetings at Thompson Barn, Community Center, Senior Center and City Hall. Size of events can range from 10 to 400 guests.
