Summer Camps

Summer CampEnjoy a summer of fun during Lenexa's full-day, licensed summer camps in 2021. 

Your child will make lasting memories at our day camps, which are jam-packed with age-appropriate exciting indoor and outdoor games, team building, contests and hands-on challenges and projects designed for their skill level. Each week includes multiple swimming trips and a field trip.

Day camps schedule

Summer camps will be held weekly June 7 through July 30, 2021, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Lenexa Rec Center. You can enroll your child in one week or all the weeks. Pick what works for your schedule.

WEEK 1 | Hawaiian Hoopla | June 710 - FULL
Let’s kick off the summer with a cool island vibe while we get to know our new friends! We will introduce campers to summer fun and games with our Aloha-themed week. Discover all the amazing things that make the Hawaiian Islands unique while making tie-dye shirts, erupting volcanoes, learning how to hula dance, and pineapple bowling.

WEEK 2 | STEMulation | June 14–18 - FULL
Summer scientists will get hands on with all sorts of awesome, messy, wacky experiments! Create your own slime, design a parachute for the egg drop, build a catapult, erupt a volcano and explore how science is involved in our food. Curiosity will reach new heights this week.

WEEK 3 | Wildly Creative | June 2125 - FULL
Look closely and see the beauty that is all around us! Using a variety of tools, anything is possible with imagination. We'll stir up the paints and get creative this week with projects such as leaf rubbing, kindness rocks, and art creations that are uniquely you.

WEEK 4 | America! | June 28July 2 - FULL
Enjoy the great outdoors as we partake in classic summertime games like tug-o-war, four square, hopscotch, lawn games and more. 

WEEK 5 | SPLASHTACULAR | July 6–9* (No camp Monday, July 5) - FULL
Splish! Splash! It’s an attack! Join us for this wild and wet week of camp with water battles, water balloons and water relays to cool off the right way. 

WEEK 6 | Grab your Passports! | July 12–16 - FULL
Pack your bags and let us embark on an adventure around the world! Our fearless travelers will have five days to learn about different places, cultures, foods, traditions and games played in other areas of the world. The travel bug has bitten, and we are ready to go.

WEEK 7 | Fandemonium | July 19–23 - FULL
From Harry Potter to Disney to Star Wars, we are all fans of the small and big screen and famous characters. Spend this week with us celebrating our favorite movies, shows and games. From quidditch to "may the force be with you" egg drop, everyone can level up in our talent show. 

WEEK 8 | Color Wars | July 26–30 - FULL
Welcome to Tokyo — take 2! The 2021 Olympics will be underway, and we’ll hold color wars with a variety of good old fashioned summer fun and team activities. Awards will be given to the winners of our competitions.

Ages

Licensed summer camps are open to children who have completed kindergarten through age 13.

How to register

Summer camp registration opened at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2021, and will be handled on a first-come, first-served basis. Enrollment typically fills within minutes. Online registration is highly recommended.

Fees and payments

Camp fees are charged on a biweekly basis.

Full week
$139 residents or Lenexa Rec Center members
$149 nonresidents

Short week (July 6–9)
*$120 residents or Lenexa Rec Center members
*$130 nonresidents

Payment plan
Everyone is defaulted to payment plan at the time of registration. Payment for your child's first week at camp is due at the time of registration, as well as a $10 deposit for all additional weeks your child(ren) is enrolled. All remaining fees will default to the payment plan dates that correspond to your child’s remaining weeks. Camp staff

Our summer camps are led by high school and college staff who are age 16 and older. They are friendly, patient, fun and energetic, and they are trained for a minimum of 30 hours in topics including group control, positive discipline, safety and first aid.

Third-party camps

Enroll your child in a Lenexa summer camp and LEGO® camp at the same time, and receive $30 off your summer camp enrollment for that week. LEGO® camps will take place at the Lenexa Senior Center in Old Town. Third-party camp registration opened at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2021.

Forms and documents

Returning campers

If your child(ren) attended our summer camps in 2020 and you successfully enroll your child(ren) into summer 2021 and no information regarding your child(ren) and family has changed, ie. address, phone numbers, health insurance, etc., you must submit the following forms via email to Sarah Hirst, shirst@lenexa.com, no later than 5 p.m. on Jan. 27, 2021. Failing to do so will forfeit your child(ren)'s spot in summer camp.

New campers

If your child(ren) have not attended our summer camp before, you must complete the following forms and submit them via email to Sarah Hirst, shirst@lenexa.com, no later than 5 p.m. on Jan. 27, 2021. Failing to do so will forfeit your child(ren)'s spot in summer camp:

Medication

If your child(ren) require medication administration during camp hours, please complete the appropriate form(s)

  • Self-Medication Administration: this form is required for with Epi-Pens and/or Inhalers

  • Short-Term Medication: this form is required for an antibiotic, ibuprofen, etc.

  • Long-Term Medication: this form is required for daily allergy, ADD/ADHD medication, etc.
