Community Development

Community Development staff are available to provide services during regular hours (Monday - Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.).

To reduce the spread of COVID-19, we ask that you complete your business online or by phone whenever possible. Please note, some functions may be delayed.

We provide services related to building and construction, public construction projects, licensing, permits, planning and zoning. We strive to make our services accessible and understandable while providing the highest level of customer service to you.

We serve you in the following areas:

  • Building Services – We oversee building and construction-related codes, review plans for code compliance and conduct inspections of construction underway.

  • Community Standards – We enforce property maintenance codes through inspections and responding to your concerns, and work with the Police and Fire Departments for our residential rental licensing and inspection program.

  • Customer Service – We handle daily customer service activities and help you with building and development plan applications, construction permits and licensing.

  • Engineering & Construction Services – We oversee the planning, engineering design and construction of our Capital Improvement Program and public improvements associated with private development.

  • Planning and Development – We facilitate the zoning and development review process, reviewing development applications and permits, and providing long-range planning for the community.

  • Traffic Management – We work to provide a safe and efficient road system through traffic control devices.

  • Right-of-Way - We assist our residents, businesses and utility companies by managing the public rights-of-way where utility lines run. Obtain your right-of-way permit online at www.lenexa.ks.roway.net.
