Statewide face mask mandate

Gov. Laura Kelly issued Executive Order #20-52 requiring most Kansans to cover their mouth and nose with a face covering in public indoor and outdoor spaces as of Friday, July 3, 2020, when 6 feet of social distancing can’t be maintained.

Lenexa Parks & Recreation Face Covering Code of Conduct

Individuals age 6 and older must wear face masks when entering Lenexa Parks & Recreation facilities and traveling through non-workout areas. This includes the Rec Center, Community Center, Senior Center, Thompson Barn, Indian Trails Aquatic Center and Legler Barn Museum. If you expect to participate in strenuous activity that could result in difficulty breathing while wearing a mask, we encourage you to wear a mask until you reach your location of exercise and after the exercise is complete.

In addition, we strongly encourage members, guests and participants to wear masks while participating in activities where a mask is not restrictive to your breathing and you are comfortable performing the activity with it on.

Face masks are strongly encouraged at the outdoor Farmers Market.

No masks are allowed to be worn while in the water at a public pool.

Refer to Executive Order #20-52 for guidance on other outside activities.

Check-in procedures

You will see signage asking you to complete a self-assessment of your health and to not visit if you are feeling ill.

Self-Assessment Questions:

  • Are you experiencing or have you experienced any of the following symptoms in the last 48 hours (fever, cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, muscle pain, sore throat, new loss of taste or smell, chills)?

  • Are you caring for someone or is someone in your household ill with COVID-19 or COVID-19-related symptoms?

  • Have you been exposed to anyone who is ill with COVID-19-related symptoms?

Temperature checks

As of Aug. 17, all visitors (except those visiting for brief business transactions) will administer a quick digital temperature check with a touchless sensor at the welcome desk.

Rec Center swim lessons

Participants will check in inside the pool by the sectioned-off swim lesson area.

Check-in may be slower than typical, so we ask for your patience and to please follow social distancing guidelines.
  • Touchless options:

    • All participants will be checked in by the program instructor.

    • Contact information from the parent/guardian staying on-site during the program/class time will be gathered by the program instructor upon arrival.

Modified rules / capacities

No more than six participants per class. Parent and child classes will have no more than 12 participants. Classes will be separated by 6 feet or more.

These restrictions will be followed and will limit the amount of students that can participate in each class/program at one time. Schedules and program days/times have been adjusted to reflect this.

Only one adult viewer per swimmer will be allowed in the pool area. Other viewers will need to remain in the lobby space of the Rec Center or the parking area of Indian Trails Aquatic Center.

Parents/guardians of the participants are required to maintain social distancing in viewing areas of the pool.

All greetings before and after class will be non-physical.

Patron expectations

Plan ahead and come prepared for your activity to limit time needed in in the facility.

Sanitize your hands upon arriving and before leaving our facilities. Sanitizing stations will be available.

We encourage you to wear a cloth face covering over your nose and mouth.

Please stay home if you or your child are sick.

Be patient, flexible and kind.

Social distancing is highly encouraged throughout the facilities. We have taken the following steps to allow for social distancing:

  • Chairs/waiting area furniture will be placed 6 feet apart at the Rec Center.

  • Viewers can bring their own lawn chair for seating at Indian Trails.

  • Signage will be placed throughout our facilities to help communicate both capacity and any guidelines for that specific space.
If you believe you have been exposed to COVID-19, please follow these steps.

Cleaning measures

High-touch surfaces and items are sanitized regularly. High-touch surfaces include, but are not limited to, door handles, stair railings, counter tops, credit card and signature pads, and elevator buttons.

All common-use equipment is sanitized before and after each use and at the beginning and end of each class/program.

For each program/class, when feasible, each participant will be assigned his or her own equipment.
