Jacob Thomas and Daniel HipsherTwo Lenexa Farmers Market vendors were recognized with state-level agriculture awards in 2021. We are proud of Jacob Thomas from JET Produce and Meats for being named one of this year’s Kansas Ag Heroes. On the Missouri side, Daniel Hipsher from Midwest Specialty Foods (Daniel’s Bar-b-q Sauces at our Market) received the EmpowerMore Award given at the Best of Missouri Grown reception. These business owners have developed innovative approaches to support local food producers.

Jacob Thomas from JET Produce and Meats, is a third-generation farmer in Leavenworth County, Kansas. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020, he stepped forward to make sure the community had access to wholesome, local food. At the Lenexa Farmers Market, he offered other vendors’ products when they were not able to have a presence there due to health concerns related to COVID. Jacob provided access and availability both to those in need and those with resources. His commitment to offering quality local foods continues at every market.

Daniel Hipsher from Daniel’s Bar-b-q Sauces in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, has been an entrepreneur his whole life. He is always excited to share in the enthusiasm of another person’s idea. His award-winning barbecue sauces have been a hit at the Lenexa Farmers Market. Daniel realized he could also help other food entrepreneurs bring their locally made products to market through his newest business venture: Midwest Specialty Foods. From getting the product produced, labeled, on shelves and sold at the Lenexa Farmers Market, Daniel helps other entrepreneurs make their dreams come true.

Congratulations to Jacob and Daniel!
