Summer CampEnjoy a summer of fun during Lenexa's full-day, licensed summer camps in 2020.

Your child will make lasting memories at our day camps, which are jam-packed with age-appropriate exciting indoor and outdoor games, team building, contests and hands-on challenges and projects designed for their skill level. Each week includes multiple swimming trips and a field trip.

Day camps schedule

Summer camps will be held weekly June 1 through July 31, 2020, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Lenexa Rec Center. You can enroll your child in one week or all the weeks. Pick what works for your schedule.

WEEK 1 | Ignite Your Summer  June 1–5 - FULL
Grab your sunglasses, water bottle and get ready for a fun week to start the summer. The fun will rise as the heat does! Help us set the tone and kick off summer right with outdoor games, crafts, sports and a variety of get to know you and getting to know our camp activities.

WEEK 2 | Camp Masterpieces | June 8–12 FULL
Van Gogh. Picasso. Seurat. Do you see potential in a shoe box for a creative masterpiece? Then this is the week for you. We’ll use different artistic styles and create a variety of masterpieces to call our own.

WEEK 3 | Global Adventures | June 15–19 FULL
Grab your passport! This exciting multicultural week will explore different sports, foods, traditions, crafts and customs from all over the world. Be sure to join us and learn about various countries, while sampling authentic food at our World’s Fair Day this week.

WEEK 4 | Nature STEM |  June 22–26 FULL
Connect with nature on a whole new level. Learn about STEM concepts through hands on exploration of nature. Campers will participate in many different Earth-related crafts, activities, go on scavenger hunts and try to generate power with a dirt battery. 

WEEK 5 | Red, White and Blue! | June 29–July 2* (No camp Friday, July 3) FULL
Show your American Pride during red, white and blue week. Have fun participating in activities that celebrate our traditions and country. Games include capture the flag, food contests, foursquare and wiffle ball. 

WEEK 6 | Splashtacular|  July 6–10 FULL
Splash and explore this “spectacular” week while learning about the wonders of water and the creatures of the sea. Create your own splash painting, gummy fish in a bowl and waves. Play splash tag, water balloon toss. Most importantly, be prepared to get splashed!

WEEK 7 | Name Your Talent | July 13–17 FULL
What would camp be without a talent show?! You will prepare all week for your consistently fabulous performances that will blow our minds. 

WEEK 8 | Mission: Possible | July 20–24 FULL
Get your creative juices flowing, because you are going to need it this week. Groups will compete against each other in engineering design challenges to try to take home the gold.

WEEK 9 | Go for the Gold! | July 27–31 FULL
Welcome to Tokyo! The Olympics are underway, so a games extravaganza will be had by all. A variety of sports, relay races, teamwork and awards will end our last week of camp.

Summer camps are open to children who have completed kindergarten through age 15.

How to register

Camp registration opened at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2020, and will be handled on a first-come, first-served basis. Online registration is highly recommended.

You may also register in person at the Parks & Recreation desk in the Lenexa Rec Center (17201 W. 87th St. Pkwy.), which is open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Please anticipate a waiting period. You may secure your child’s enrollment faster online than in person. To complete your enrollment, please pay close attention to the required forms below, which must be submitted by Jan. 29, 2020.

Camp fees are charged on a weekly basis.

Full week
$139 residents or Lenexa Rec Center members
$149 nonresidents

Short week (June 29–July 2)

Payment plan
Everyone is defaulted to payment plan at the time of registration. Payment for your child's first week at camp is due at the time of registration, as well as a $10 deposit for all additional weeks your child(ren) is enrolled. All remaining fees will default to the payment plan dates that correspond to your child’s remaining weeks. Camp staff

Our summer camps are led by high school and college staff who are age 16 and older. They are friendly, patient, fun and energetic, and they are trained for a minimum of 30 hours in topics including group control, positive discipline, safety and first aid.

Third-party camps

Enroll your child in a Lenexa summer camp and LEGO®, Mad Science or Youth Tech Inc. camp at the same time, and receive $30 off your summer camp enrollment for that week. Third-party camp registration opened at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2020.

Returning campers

If your child(ren) attended our summer camps in 2019, and the information about your child(ren) and family have not changed, submit the following forms via email to Sarah Hirst,, no later than 5 p.m. on Jan. 29, 2020. Failing to do so will forfeit your child(ren)'s spot in summer camp:

New campers

If your child(ren) have not attended our summer camp before, you must complete the following forms and submit them via email to Sarah Hirst,, no later than 5 p.m. on Jan. 29, 2020. Failing to do so will forfeit your child(ren)'s spot in summer camp:

If your child(ren) require medication administration during camp hours, please complete the appropriate form(s)

  • Self-Medication Administration: this form is required for with Epi-Pens and/or Inhalers

  • Short-Term Medication: this form is required for an antibiotic, ibuprofen, etc.

  • Long-Term Medication: this form is required for ADD/ADHD medication.
