Help plan the future of the Quivira corridor

Help plan the future of the Quivira corridor
Posted on 12/08/2017

With two of three public workshops complete, those interested in the Quivira Road Corridor Study have an upcoming opportunity to participate in the process.

The Quivira Road Corridor Study kicked off in summer 2017 with an advisory committee and team of consultants working together to develop a plan to promote reinvestment, expand multimodal transportation opportunities and support the distinct character of the area along Quivira Road from 79th to 99th Streets.

This community-driven process has so far incorporated two public workshops to gain insight into what improvements those who live, work, shop and travel along this high-profile corridor would like to see. The first meeting focused on proposed project goals and establishing the current challenges facing the corridor. At the second meeting, attendees provided input on proposed sidewalk and bike linkages, enhancements to transit service and ways to beautify and brand the corridor.

The comments received through the public meetings and surveys will be used to guide the consultants as they develop a plan for the future of the Quivira Road corridor. Those who weren’t able to attend one or both of the meetings still have the opportunity to provide their input.

At the project’s third and final public workshop, attendees will be able to view and comment on short-term and long-term recommendations for the study area. This meeting will take place Wednesday, Feb. 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lenexa Community Center, AB Room, 13420 Oak St. Watch our e-newsletters and social media for updates.

The project team is scheduled to have a final plan ready to present to the public with approval of the Governing Body in summer 2018. The consultant team will present their recommendations to the Committee of the Whole in January 2018. It is anticipated that the Planning Commission will consider accepting the plan in April 2018, and the Governing Body will consider acceptance of the final plan in May 2018. These meetings are open to the public.
