Hometown talent on display

Art is a way to show what’s important to people and can bring communities together. For over 30 years, the Lenexa Arts Council has organized the Lenexa Artists’ Show. This show is only for artists who live in Lenexa, and it features both hobbyists and professionals.
This year’s show features 36 artists. Their work is on display at the City Hall Art Gallery until Sept. 29.
On Thursday, Aug. 22, there was a public reception where people could meet the artists and celebrate their work. Awards were given in three categories: 2D art, 3D art, and photography/digital art. The judges were Sara Powell-Moody, who was a creative director at Hallmark Cards for 26 years, and Cheryl Smith, a local artist who also worked at Hallmark.

The Lenexa Arts Council
The Lenexa Arts Council is an appointed nine-member volunteer board. Members bring art opportunities and programs to Lenexa. In addition to the Lenexa Artists’ Show and other exhibits at the City Hall Art Gallery, the council organizes a variety of other programs and events such as the Lenexa Community Orchestra, the Outdoor Concert Series, City Center Live and the Manhattan Short Film Festival.
