Free outdoor fitness classes in September

Back to school also means getting back into routine. This September, let us help you Fall Back to Fitness with free Lenexa Rec Center Group X fitness classes outside on the civic campus. Try one or try them all. Figure out what type of exercise you enjoy and explore how a class may help you reach your goals.
Ages 16 years and up. Membership not required. Registration not required. Bring a yoga mat if you have one. Classes will move indoors in the case of inclement weather. Stop by the Rec Center welcome desk to sign in if class goes indoors.

Monday, Sept. 23
8:30–9:20 a.m.
A well-rounded, high-energy workout that includes 20 minutes of heart-pumping cardio exercises and 20 minutes of strength training to build muscle. It concludes with 10 minutes of core work and flexibility exercise to enhance stability and range of motion.
5:45–6:30 p.m.
Inspired by dance, Pilates, yoga and more, Barre Fitness develops total body strength, flexibility, balance and posture with an emphasis on core strength and proper body alignment.
Tuesday, Sept. 24
9:30–10:15 a.m.
Designed to help active seniors increase cardiovascular endurance, strength and improve balance through the use of weights, dancing and range of motion.
6–7 p.m.
This class starts with the continuous, flowing progressions of poses and postures known with Vinyasa yoga and moves to the relaxing and gentle poses of restorative yoga.
Wednesday, Sept. 25
9–10 a.m.
Continuous, flowing progressions of poses and postures to strengthen and relax you.
Noon–12:30 p.m.
This 30-minute class will turn your day around. Improve coordination, strength and flexibility.
Thursday, Sept. 26
10:30–11:15 p.m.
Designed to help active seniors increase cardiovascular endurance, strength and improve balance using weights, dancing and range of motion.
5:30–6 p.m.
Energizing music and other cyclists nearby help you reach new heights and goals on the stationary bike. (Bikes provided.)
Friday, Sept. 27
9–9:45 a.m.
Combine calisthenics and resistance-training exercises to challenge the cardiovascular, pulmonary and musculoskeletal systems.
10:30–11:30 a.m.
A gentle introduction to yoga with flowing progressions of beginner yoga poses, postures and stretches.
Saturday. Sept. 28
8–8:50 a.m.
A combo of Pilates and Yoga. This class is a full body, low-impact workout designed to burn fat and define muscles.
