Outdoor pools

Cool off in one of our three outdoor pools — Sar-Ko-Par Aquatic Center, Ad Astra Pool and Flat Rock Creek Pool until 6 p.m. on July 4. We’ll close early for backyard parties but will be open for afternoon fun in the sun.

Be safe

Speaking of backyard parties, don’t forget safety. As you fire up the grill and gather with neighbors and friends, keep these safety tips in mind:

  1. Fireworks are illegal in Lenexa. Sparklers, snakes, smoke bombs and paper caps with less than .25 grain of explosive are not considered fireworks and are legal.
  2. Keep grills 10 feet away from siding, deck rails and eaves.
  3. Open gas grills before lighting them to avoid gas buildup that could cause a flash fire when lit.
  4. Keep a fire extinguisher nearby.
  5. Let coals cool completely before disposing them in a metal can.
