*A Police Officer Recruit is someone who has been hired and is attending the 16-week police academy. Upon successful graduation from the police academy, the recruit moves to Police Officer status and the Police Officer pay scale.

In addition to the benefits listed above, police officers also receive:
- 9-hour shifts. The ninth hour of each shift is reserved for additional team training and/or on-duty physical fitness. The nine-hour shift affords each officer a three-day weekend every other week and 26 additional days off per year.

- Available membership to Lenexa FOP lodge #75 with legal coverage-civil and criminal.
- No Kansas residency requirement.

- Kansas Police & Fire Defined Pension Plan (vested after 15 years, retire at age 50 with 25 years of service).
- Paid Shift Differential ($.75/hour for Evenings, $1/hour for Midnights).
- Certified/lateral officers with patrol experience are encouraged to apply.
- Post-9/11 GI Bill education benefits.

Lenexa has a proud history of supporting women in law enforcement. Approximately 12% of full-time law enforcement officers in the United States are female. Currently, females comprise 17% of our sworn officers in Lenexa.
