Start Independence Day off with a bang! Whether you are a walker, seasoned runner or somewhere in between, we are excited to have you join thousands in Old Town Lenexa for our USATF-certified 5K or 10K.

Please note: Walkers and those pushing strollers should register for the 5K only.

Finish line photos

We give awards in 15 categories, based on electronic chip times. Race time receipts are available at the end of the event.

We give out awards once we can finalize the race results at the end of the event. If you are unable to stay for the awards and are a winner in one of the categories, you may pick up your award at the Lenexa Rec Center up to two weeks after the race.

5K awards

We give plaques for first place and medals for second and third place in the following age categories:

Event day registration. Visit the Lenexa Community Center, 13420 Oak St, Lenexa KS 66215, from 5:30–6:30 a.m.

Packet pickup

There are two options for picking up your race packet:

July 3, 2024: from 3 p.m.–7 p.m. at the Lenexa Community Center, 13420 Oak St., Lenexa, KS 66215
July 4, 2024: from 5:30–6:45 a.m. at the Lenexa Community Center, 13420 Oak St., Lenexa, KS 66215

Family or friends are allowed to pick up your packet for you. They will need to provide your last name for verification.

Road closures

Several roads in the Old Town area will be closed on July 4 for the Freedom Run and Community Days Parade.

What you need to know

Packet pick up

Family or friends are allowed to pick up your packet for you. They will need to provide your last name for verification.

Arrival

The race begins promptly at 7 a.m., so you should allow plenty of time for parking and packet pickup. We recommend arriving no later than 6:30 a.m.

Parking

Various roads into Old Town Lenexa will be closed. Please refer to our road closure map(PDF, 141KB) when deciding where to park. If you arrive early and park in areas that will close, you may not be able to leave until after the parade at 12:30 p.m.

Courses

Both the 5K and 10K courses are USTAF certified and marked at the 1-, 2-, 3-, 4-, 5-, and 6-mile marks. The courses overlap, and the split for the 10K course is at the 2.7-mile marker on Santa Fe Trail Drive at 95th Street.

Water and restrooms

We provide water sprays at several locations throughout the course and water aid stations at three locations:

Course selection

You may change your distance before the race but not during or after the race. Be sure to familiarize yourself with the course before you run it and follow the arrows and signs. Please do not sign up to walk the 10K.

Timing and bib numbers

Your race bib contains an electronic chip, which will be used for results and timing. Electronic pads are located at the start and finish line. We use the bib numbers to identify registered runners for pictures and other backup information.

If your bib number does not correspond with your timing chip or computer time printout, please notify us immediately so we can make those corrections.

Weather

We will hold the race in the rain. If the weather becomes unsafe (severe weather, thunderstorms, etc.), we reserve the right to postpone or cancel the race.

Strollers and dogs

We do not allow dogs, other than service animals.

You are welcome to run or walk with a baby stroller, but please stay near the back of the pack to ensure everyone’s safety.

Results

We post the race results as soon as they are available after the race. You can also request a personal printout at the finish line, these are a preliminary placement. It has not considered runners that started after you but could have a faster finish time. We post official results to our website within two hours of the completion of the race.
