Project purpose

The asphalt roundabouts along Monticello Road have experienced failures related to pushing, shoving and rutting due to the heavy turn movements and stop and start traffic. Traditional mill and overlay maintenance strategies are ineffective, requiring maintenance work every five years to prevent deterioration of the asphalt base. Reconstructing the roundabout with concrete would reduce issues with maintenance to only every 15 to 20 years.

Project description

The Monticello Road Roundabout Replacement Project will reconstruct the pavement portion of the four roundabouts on Monticello Road between 83rd Street and Prairie Star Parkway. This project will remove the asphalt pavement, prepare the subgrade, and place back concrete pavement at the roundabout and on each approach. Deteriorating curb and gutter, sidewalk, and brick pavers would be removed and replaced as needed.

This project will also include minor bridge repairs of the Monticello Road Bridge over Coon Creek, and a mill and overlay of the remaining portions of Monticello Road, Black Hoof Park parking lots, and 95th Street from Monticello Road to 400 feet east of Aurora Street. Placement of a 10' trail along Monticello Road, through the Brampton Subdivision, and to Buffalo Meadows Park is also being designed.

Design is scheduled for 2025 with construction in 2026.
