Project purpose
Biannual bridge inspections have determined this bridge to be structurally deficient, and functionally obsolete. Among the 29 bridges in Lenexa’s inventory, this bridge holds the lowest rating. This project will be managed by Lenexa in collaboration with the City of Overland Park and is part of Overland Park’s Capital Improvement Plan.
Project description
The project will replace the existing bridge over Flat Rock Creek with a larger precast structure. The new bridge will feature a wider driving surface, expanded sidewalks, curb and gutter.
Timeline
Construction will take place in 2026 following the FIFA World Cup 26™.
Traffic impacts
Starting Aug. 3, 2026, 103rd Street will be closed at the Flat Rock Creek bridge, just east of Flat Rock Creek Pool at Noland Road, to reconstruct the bridge. The road closure is expected to remain in place for approximately four months, weather permitting.
Eastbound traffic detour route
Detour will be accessed via Pflumm Road to Lenexa Drive to 99th Street to Rosehill Road to 103rd Street.
Westbound traffic detour route
Detour will be accessed via Rosehill Road to 99th Street to Lenexa Drive to 103rd Street.
Pedestrian detour route
A pedestrian detour will loop north of the Flat Rock Creek bridge along the trail.
Current status
July 21, 2026: The construction contractor plans to close 103rd Street at Flat Rock Creek bridge starting Aug. 3.
May 19, 2026: The Lenexa City Council awarded the construction contract to WCI, Inc.
