National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

Next date: Saturday, April 26, 2025 | 10:00 AM to 02:00 PM

Pills spilling from prescription bottles

Clean out your medicine cabinet and dispose of old, unused, or expired prescription medications at the Lenexa Police Department for the DEA National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet. This event helps prevent prescription drug addiction and overdose deaths.

This is a drive-thru collection event in front of the Lenexa Justice Center. Stay in your vehicle. When you pull through the designated lane, you can dispose of medication in a collection bin.

Follow these steps when disposing of your medications:

  • Dump pills/patches from their original container into a resealable zipper storage bag. Different pills can be mixed together in the same bag. Empty medication containers can then be disposed of with your regular garbage.
  • Bring your resealable zipper storage bag(s) of medication, and we'll direct you to the appropriate drive-thru lane to dispose of your medication. No appointment is necessary.
  • Medical sharps/needles should be placed in an appropriate medical sharps container, or other puncture-resistant container such as a laundry soap container or empty bleach bottle. Learn more

For safety reasons, we cannot accept the following types of medications:

The Lenexa Police Department also offers year-round prescription drug disposal inside the lobby of the Lenexa Justice Center.
