Peace Poles Community Art Exhibit

Five poles along shore at Lake Lenexa

The Peace Poles Community Art Project — a series of poles designed by community members and adorned with original art and messages of peace — was on display at Black Hoof Park May 1–Sept. 30, 2024. The purpose of the outdoor exhibit was to inspire peace, hope, creativity and community involvement.

Then, bidding will resume at an in-person event at Lenexa City Hall, 17101 W. 87th St. Pkwy., the evening of Nov. 15. Silent auction begins at 6 p.m.; live auction at 7 p.m. Proceeds will benefit Project 1020. Learn more

Project overview

Residents, community groups, businesses and artists submitted designs to be considered for the exhibit in January 2024. The sketches then went before a jury review process and applicants whose designs were approved had six weeks to complete their poles.

A judging panel, including art professionals, recognized the top designs in July and announced award winners.

A public auction will take place in November with proceeds benefiting Project 1020, Johnson County's cold-weather shelter for people experiencing homelessness
