A Chili Mecca
Each year, about 200 teams compete in two divisions: Chili Appreciation Society International (CASI) and Home Style Chili. Contestants also compete in the Salsa and Hot Wing contests.
Chili contestants arrive on Friday afternoon to begin setting up their booths. The festivities Friday night include live music and fireworks. The contest begins Saturday at 10 a.m. with free samples for the public (while they last). Awards are typically announced at 4 p.m.
Can you take the heat? Test your eating merit at the new Hot Pepper Eating Contest at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Must be 18 or older. Contest entry is free. Event details
